-33.9496, 150.94
Field Notes
Description:
Body length 40mm
The Red and Blue Damselflies have the bright red face and thorax. Their abdomen is pale colour, with blue rings at tail. Female is almost the same colours as male, which is quite uncommon in damselflies.
The Red and Blue Damsel is widespread across all Australian states.
Habitat:
It is typically found near dams, marshes and slow watercourses
Notes:
This pair were either about to mate or, the male is just holding onto the female to ensure that she will not mate with another male. Males tend to do that as female damselflies are naturally promiscuous meaning that they will mate several times before laying their eggs.
