Field Notes

Description:

Buprestidae is a family of beetles, known as jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles because of their glossy iridescent colors. The family is among the largest of the beetles, with some 15,000 species known in 450 genera. In addition, almost 100 fossil species have been described.
The larger and more spectacularly colored jewel beetles are highly prized by insect collectors. The elytra of some Buprestidae species have been traditionally used in beetlewing jewellery and decoration in certain countries in Asia, like India, Thailand and Japan.(wiki)

Thanks Mark!! It seems we had some little spelling problems with Hemant's spotting ;-) or better LOL!
Ok third time is a charm. Great shots of awesome subject Hemant!
@Hemant! Please, change your name in Sternocera!! I did a little misspelling. Sorry!
Thanks Emilie. Could be but there are unfortunately too many almost identical species around to get down to species level. There might be criteria to separate them, but I don't know them.
Sternocera chrysis? See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sternocera_chrysis Your photos are much better than the ones of Wikipedia, really neat and beautiful!
Thanks Mark, you are pretty right!
Hi Hemant. I have altered your common name from Juwel to Jewel. I'm pretty sure that was a typo from bayucca. :)
thank you so much for the correct ID @bayucca
Buprestidae, Sternocera sp. Unfortunately there are at least 6 (or even more!), that looks like yours. Cannot get closer than the genus. http://www.123rf.com/photo_20855837_jewel-beetle-of-family-buprestidae-possibly-sternocera-nitens-or-s-brahmina-hanging-from-a-twig-from.html http://web.romascuola.net/bups/sterasia.htm http://virtual-beetles.pagesperso-orange.fr/busterasie.html
