Field Notes

Description:

The first time I saw this animal I was really impressed. I had never seen something like this before. I asked around and I only know that this creature is from the order of the Amblypygi, an order of invertebrate animals in the class of arachnidae, but it is a separate order of arachnids alongside the spiders. I don't know which species it exactly is.
It was approx. 15 cm (without the sensor legs).
They are very useful animals and catch cockroaches and other stuff, and they are completely harmless to people. This one in particular was living most of the time in our bathroom.

Definitely interesting - I love your close-up in pic 1. Well done !
Thank you Marta, Sigg and Maria! :) And thank you Fyn for the nomination!
Great series! Interesting insect but not sure I'd like it in the bathroom.
Wow! we have a lot of these where I live, but they are nowhere near this big nor are the front grasping arms so well developed. I hope someone out there can ID it.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thank you hardy and Mark!
