Wildlife Spotting

A small black insect, about 15mm long, with two large dark red spikes on its tail (the second shot is blurry but it shows the spikes). We found this in some old wooden beehives which were clustered on the edge of the Trachyte Circuit in the Glasshouse Mountains. We're not sure what the story of the beehives is but I was suprised to see them in a national park and they seem to have been there for many years unattended.
