Field Notes

Description:

A small molted brown butterfly with distinctive eyespots.

Habitat:

Spotted in mixed woods. They are found in moist shaded woods in the southeastern United States.

Notes:

Caterpillars feed on grasses including Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon). Adults do not visit flowers but are attracted to rotting or overripe fruit.
