Field Notes

Description:

Ilex verticillata is a shrub, Its a holly which are deciduous, losing their leaves in the fall. In wet sites, it will spread to form a dense thicket, while in dry soil it remains a tight shrub.

Habitat:

Deciduous: The deciduous forest is mostly made up of deciduous trees. These are trees that lose their leaves at a certain time each year and then later grow new leaves to replace them. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn. But before the leaves die, the food material that they contain is drawn back into twigs and branches and is stored there to be used in the spring. Losing its leaves helps the tree conserve water in the winter.

Notes:

Native; attracts birds; male and female plants; tenders to spread by suckers; best fruit production in full sun

Hi Khaleeq, Check out the species suggestion I made. If you think this is the correct identification, edit your posting and change the common name and scientific name. Then you need to research to find out the habitat, trophic level and adaptations for this plant. -Ms. Moyer
