Field Notes

Notes:

I spotted this jellyfish lying on a coral ledge at a depth of 10m. It was in the throes of death, but it looked like it was still trying to move. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a gash on its head, like it had been bitten. Possibly a turtle or a dolphin nipped at it earlier... I estimate the jellyfish was about 3/4 of a meter long.

This is the first time for me to see a jellyfish this big in these waters. We usually only have the very small transparent ones that give an itchy (but non-lethal) sting, and mostly only during the summer.
