Field Notes

Description:

These are hyphae of a still unknown fungus, forming a white large net-like mycelium. The total space occupied by these white to whitish threads was about 1/4 of square meter, and they were covering the upper surface of a tree stump, as well as a piece of wood discarded next to it.

Habitat:

Seen during my last weekend trek through mixed forest (oak, beech, spruce and fir) on a rolling hills at the feet of Jura range; Geneva lake valley.

Thanks for posting this Zlatan. I have a very similar one where the "web" goes from a small tree trunk onto a large leaf that is touching (and now attached to) it. I will be keeping an eye on possible IDs.

Beautiful series Zlatan. Natural art. Sometimes in wet forests if we peel a big sheet of bark from a fallen log we see similar. Here the larger and more prolific ones are often Stereum. I see your log is possibly pine which might be a clue to an ID. Fungal hyphae.
