Description:

This vulture is characterized by a very dark body and featherless red head. The flight feathers are lighter--almost silvery in some light, as shown in this photo.

Habitat:

This vulture ranges across much of southern Canada south to South America. There are several subspecies: the bird shown is the Eastern Turkey Vulture (C. a. septentrionalis).
