Habitat:
Sandy, rocky soil, this nest is a 15 cm wide mound of sand and fine granular gravel.
Notes:
The venom of a Jack jumper is one of the most powerful in the insect world. In Tasmania 3% of deaths are caused by Jack jumper ants which is more deaths in Tasmania than spiders, wasps, and sharks combined.
Jack jumpers are able to hunt, kill and eat wasps.
