Description:

Largest woodpecker in North America. Black body and a red crest on the head. The males have a red whisker and forehead.

Notes:

I had to share these photos even though they are more than one year old. This female started on the tree stump & by the time she left it was practically saw dust. I was standing about 20 ft away and she didn't care - she was so focused on those termites,
