Gloriosa superba
28.0561, -82.4682
Field Notes
Description:
Glory Lilies are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season. The tips of their leaves act like tendrils and "grab" on to any nearby structures to give support to the plant.
They scramble and climb wherever they can to get access to sunlight.
Habitat:
Native range is Africa, Southeastern Asia and parts of Malaysia.
Now widely cultivated as a garden flower.
Notes:
Grows more prolifically if tubers are dug and divided during dormant season.
