Field Notes

Description:

Succulent xerophyte with long spiny leaves. Tall flowering spike blooms in late winter. Gel and juice in the leaves have been used medicinally for many centuries.

Habitat:

Native to warm latitudes, possibly North Africa. Now a favorite in gardens worldwide. Requires good drainage and sun.

Notes:

Produces clonal "pups" from the base of the rosette. I've been growing a single "individual" in this manner for a decade.

I just used it today on mosquito bites. Soothes the itching. Also a good remedy for sunburns. Works great :)
