Description:
Quite a big bird, 47-50 cm. All-grey with pronounced head-crest, but not member of Turaco family. Sexes alike.
Well-known call is "kwe-hhhh" or "go-awayyyy". Immature calls "how-how". Rather noisy, but I just love it!
Flies with rather heavy wings movements mostly below the tree-tops.
Habitat:
Saw 4 of them this morning in my garden where there are broad-leaved trees. About 20 years ago were only found in Northern bushveld, but since many people have started planting indigenous trees and plants in Johannesburg, they can now be seen in most suburbs. Usually found in upper stratum of trees.
Notes:
Looks different from any other bird and is about the size of a raven.
