Field Notes

Description:

The Common Emigrant or Lemon Emigrant (Catopsilia pomona) is a medium sized pierid butterfly found in Asia and parts of Australia. The species gets its name from its habit of migration. Some early authors considered them as two distinct species Catopsilia crocale and Catopsilia pomona.

Notes:

This butterfly usually flies swiftly through my garden. Today it stopped for a bit of nourishment!

by looking the second photo i think it's more likely Lemon/Common Emigrant (Catopsilia pomona ) http://www.flutters.org/home/photogallery/plog-content/images/butterfly--id-keys/pieridae---whites--yellows/emigrants.jpg
Nuwan, I uploaded another photo, maybe it is easier to see on that one. It was more in the shadow...
Yes, Nuwan, it looks like it could be either of these. It seemed to have light coloured, almost white upper wings when it was flying, but then it is not so easy to see. My eyesight is getting old!
Lemon Emigrant is also a possibility http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catopsilia_pomona
