Field Notes

Description:

With its wings folded, the sunbittern easily blends with its forest habitat. However, this contrasts sharp;y with its appearance when its wings are outstretched. The wings are brightly colored in red, yellow, and black. Such coloration is used in courtship and to scare off predators.

Habitat:

Spotted in Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. Wooded habitat.
