This spotting was actually on the Keys Gap (Route 9) section of the AT.

Hi Cindy, The AT is the Appalachian Trail which runs from Georgia to Maine. I have not hiked the trail strait through, but I have hiked sections of it. This section in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia is forested, as is the majority of the trail. But there are some sections that cross roads and powerlines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_Trail
