They are common in forest regions - that doesn't necessarily mean that they are exclusively to be found IN the forest; but also near/around them - especially if it's also an agraric region where dung is always present.
it was not in the forest....hmmm i'm not sure for your name...hm has less hair?! but correct if i'm wrong!
you can easily differ between these two by the blue edging lines of the Anoplotrupes stercorosus
