Field Notes

Description:

This guy looks a lot fluffier in person than the picture conveys. He is a grayish brown with a much lighter breast. I love the dark edges of the feathers that make such a unique beautiful pattern.

Habitat:

He hung out on the ground for a long time eating the seeds we scatter.

Notes:

I originally thought that he looked like my dove that I saw the other day and thought he may be a version of, but then his beak is longer and comes to more of a point. So I don't know what he is other than fat and fluffy.

David, I have lived in a beautiful wooded country area for 6 yrs now and never looked at the birds. My girls wanted to put a feeder out and now that we have we have gotten so many birds in our yard! I never thought I would be searching to the ends of the internet trying to identify birds or sneaking to my window to try and photograph them. All these birds I have posted have been seen for the first time in the last 2-3 weeks, it's been a lot of fun.

I've never seen one in person, but I've been going through my field guides. I remembered this one because of the name.
David, thank you! I was at least right in the category. I seem to be getting better at this. Seema, I saw a mourning dove for the first time last week and he reminded me of this guy.
Some kind of dove..apart from the starkly different plumage, contour is much like mourning dove
