Yellow on the underside, green tint to the back leading into grey with white tipped/stripped tail.

Habitat:

I took a picture of an american goldfinch the other day and then today I saw this guy. He is brighter yellow and his tail feathers are different in pattern, but wondering if he is the same?

No problem Laura, happy to help! I just got into birding myself. Having a handy reference book makes it a lot more fun.
Thank you Courtney! I was thinking that since I try to act stealthy and sneak around with a camera waiting to catch a bird, I may be getting into birding enough to buy a book.
I find this site very helpful. Check out this link to a Pine Warbler:http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/320/_/Pine_Warbler.aspx and then compare to the same sites description for a Gold Finch:http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/91/_/American_Goldfinch.aspx If you're interested in birding a great book to buy is Kaufman - Field Guide to Bird of North America. A good thing to keep in mind is that birds differ in appearance according to sex, season, and age.
err..thanks. He looks a lot like the goldfinch I posted up a few days back. How do you all know that these are certain birds? It kinda amazes me. I look through a lot of birds and kinda sorta think I may know what one is.
I agree with Liam. This looks like a female Pine Warbler.
I think, because of the more green-toned back, that it might be a lesser goldfinch?
