Field Notes

Description:

White spot on wings ( that is why I think species is caricae). Yellow thorax has black spots. Pale rusty-ish brown with faint white streaks (Wikipedia says fuscous but I do not know what that means) wings.

Habitat:

Wire netting of garden. It stayed there the entire day running the risk of being picked off by bulbuls, babblers and drongos. Maybe it had just emerged.

Notes:

Cropped the first shot as spotting 3 to show the white marks on the wings...more diffused than proper dots, though.

Thanks, John. I will look it up. A. caricae is found in India ...host plant is papaya I think and I do have it in my tiny garden.
There is an Asota moth here in Philippines, which has the same black spots at the base of the wings - Asota egens confinis. I have not yet checked if it is present in India. My internet server is slow this evening and I just can't get the Moths of India site to open up.
Thanks for your comment. Could be ...I am no expert but the colour matches Asota very well. I have seen some Barsine moths too....let's see if someone unequivocally suggests Barsine.
Good evening Sukanya, I might be wrong, but your moth's general appearance suggests to me that it could belong to the genus Barsine. John B.
