Description:
Bright red, fuzzy, wingless wasp that looks like an ant at first glance. The legs, face and underside are black.
Habitat:
Crossing a trail in Chaparral. This species is found in dryer areas of the western coast of the US and Mexico.
Notes:
The females in this family are wingless, resemble a fuzzy ant, and can sting. The males have wings, look more like a typical wasp, and are larger.
