This tiny little buddy was just about 10mm in height - but presented itself very tall.
Please help me with the ID.

Thanks, Saarbrigger - the second pic isn't that well...the highlights are overdrawn (the bad thing about shooting without flash in the woods...you risk sharpness by going under 800 ISO) :(
Fantastic Lars ! - for something so small it looks quite powerful bursting out of the bark like that - quite dramatic. Great spotting and photos.
Thanks for the link, Nance - it's really hard to tell, since my spotting is really really juvenile...I have to keep watching it the upcoming days.
