Description:
The Yellow-billed Babbler or White-headed Babbler (Turdoides affinis) is endemic to southern India and Sri Lanka. These birds have grey brown upperparts, grey throat and breast with some mottling, and a pale buff belly. The rump is paler and the tail has a broad dark tip. They live in flocks or about 10 or more birds. They can be seen in noisy excitable parties, feeding on the ground but flying up into the trees .
Habitat:
This species is patchily distributed in southern India and Sri Lanka. The nominate subspecies is found in Andhra Pradesh, south of the Godavari river and Karnataka south of Belgaum into Tamil Nadu.
Notes:
The main distinguishing feature between the Yellow-billed and Jungle Babblers is the colour of the plumage. Yellow-billed Babblers have a lighter plumage and creamy white crown, the Jungle Babblers have a dull earth-brown plumage. Also the colour of the eyes are different. The Yellow-billed Babblers have blue eyes and the Jungle Babblers white ones .
