Field Notes

Description:

Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar, about two inches long, in a defensive stance swelling up and showing off eye-spots to attempt to ward off predators.

Habitat:

Found in an urban area.

Notes:

We found this caterpillar crawling through our newly planted butterfly garden along the side of the house, even though none of the plants there are ones it would feed on as a host plant.
