Field Notes

Description:

The smallest of the wrens for our area. Usually found near the coast, this one we spotted more inland. In relation to the oak leaves you can see that these wrens are about the size of a mouse and stayed mostly on the ground level. We also saw it under clinging vines along a wall to climb up. <br> Thin bill, small round body, short wings and stubby tail. Familiar barred markings across the brown. This one was about 5 ft from us and was difficult to focus that close.

Habitat:

Spotted outside and in the Coyote Hills Nectar Garden. First spotted in a mud puddle and then in the garden. Like a mouse it stayed near the ground and near the walls and fences.
