Dianne, I believe you're absolutely correct about the diamondback ID. But I'm more inclined to go with the northern diamondback (based on how dark the hatchlng is). The species in Florida are protected and cannot be sold--not sure about Ga.
Hmm, everything I am reading and images I am seeing are pointing to this being a Diamondback hatchling. Almost looks like an Ornate Diamondback. However, Diamondback habitat is brackish water on the coast. I found this little guy in Suwanee, which is roughly 250 miles from the shore. I can't help but wonder if he was a pet store dump :-(
