Field Notes

Description:

Large moth with intricate designs on both the fore and the hind wings. The prominent design colours are gold, blue, black and some reddish here and there.
Wingspan: 155mm.

Habitat:

Cold place, thick forests with rhododendrons, weeping willows, ash, etc. Altitude: 8,000ft.

Notes:

This is my first Brahmid Moth spotting. I did not know at what altitude they reside. This is quite a desolate place, in the sense that there are few hamlets scattered here and there and hardly any agricultural activities. The people here simply live on tourism and some of them on yak rearing.

Thanks ornithoptera80, Antonio, Sukanya, Ava T-B and Albert for making it favourite.
Thanks Sukanya. Half-heartedly father-son stretched the white sheet that evening through the rain and luckily the light too came after sometime. Lo! And this was one of the first few visitors that night. I said to my family our treacherous trip was worth the ...
This is one moth I REALLY want to see. Great shot, as usual Doc.
