Field Notes

Description:

It is a medium-sized species of scallop, an edible marine bivalve mollusk in the family Pectinidae, the scallops.
These shells vary in many colors, including white, yellow, with pink spots and some more intensely pink, as you can see on my photos.
Dimensions or the grown-ups are: a diameter of 6 - 7 cm, however those on photos are around 1 cm big.

Habitat:

It lives on sandy ground or debris, but not at less than 10 m deep. The examples on the pictures are young so they will have to migrate in deeper waters by their maturity.

Notes:

This mollusk is edible and often cultivated from the south to the north parts of Europe.
