Field Notes

Description:

Elongated and ribbed brown seeds held to leaf with white strands of silk. They were concentrated on the top edge of leaf but also wrapped to bottom of leaf as the last two images of this series show.

Habitat:

Lemon tree leaf in backyard in citrus orchard next to various Acacia trees.

Notes:

Not sure why they're on the leaf like this.

Cindy and Emma, you give us the hard ones. They look like plant seeds (daisy/dandelion?) and I wonder if something dragged them up to the leaf for food storage. My guess is something laid eggs in or under them. Cindy, if they are arthropod eggs, and I'm not convinced, they will hatch soon and you could put them (some) in a jar and watch.

One of the spotters from Australia might come up with an ID. They have all kinds of bugs out there!

LOL, yes it does feel like that sometimes. This one is definitely an arthropod but I'm not 100% sure on my other one.

Having an ID makes us feel that the spotting is so much real even though it always was.

I agree! I spotted something somewhat similar last year but it was old and there weren't any white strands holding them. They're attached differently. Maybe if this gets ID'd, I can figure out what this is: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7551472

Any ideas? I didn't see anything like this in the Eggs of the World mission.
