Field Notes

Description:

Long-legged shorebird. Brown on back and head, white breast and belly with two black bands on breast. Tail is rusty red in flight. Red eye ring.

Habitat:

Look for this bird in open areas, often nesting in short grass and areas of gravel. I've found them nesting on gravel roads and driveways, once on the nearly flat, gravel-covered school roof.

We see these guys on the gravel at edge of one of the local lakes. They always take flight when we get close enough to photograph them so I'm looking forward to seeing them on the nest soon so I can get some decent shots!
