Field Notes

Description:

This plant reaches a height of about .3 to 1 m (1-3 ft) in height and is semi-erect. As this perennial plant matures it becomes woody. The compound leaves consist of up to 50 leaflets and are grayish-green. The light to dark purple flowers are arranged on spikes at the end the larger branches.

Habitat:

Grasslands. In our area, tallgrass prairies.
