Field Notes

Description:

Light brown spider, with darker brown markings on the upper side of the thorax and abdomen, body about the size of a pea, legs 3-5 times as long as the body.

Habitat:

Montane meadow and coniferous forest ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted on the wall of a washroom at Aspenglen Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park. Order Opiliones - Harvestmen or Daddy longlegs.

Aaron: thanks for the lead. I note harvestmen are aka "daddy-longlegs", a name I recall from my youth--which is long past. As I recall, the creatures I associate with the second name had much smaller bodies than this spotting, but it's easy to see the physiological similarities between the two.
