Description:

Males (shown) are primarily black with a yellow head and breast. Wings have a white wing patch, which may only be visible in flight. Females are mainly brown with a dull yellow throat and breast.

Habitat:

Wetlands.

Yes, its song is distinct. The first time I heard it was when a male flew about 5 feet above my head. Beautiful picture.
Thanks everyone. This male was really guarding his territory. He spent quite a bit of time in this small clump of cattails and singing his heart and vocal chords out--if you can call a yellow-headed blackbird's song a song.... Made a very good subject.
