Jumping Spider
Pristobaeus sp.
15.4561, 119.921
Field Notes
Description:
Salticidae; Salticinae; Pristobaeus Simon, 1902. When I first saw a Pristobaeus sp. I thought it was Chalcotropis caeruleus, but, of course that was completely wrong. In April, this year when I eventually, with some help, got the Genus right, but the species was still unidentified, I took some consolation in the thought that it must be a rare spider and that would be the reason for the lack of information and images on the web. Now, that appears to have been wrong as well because this is my fourth spotting of this sp. for Project Noah. So, it follows that if I am spotting this sp. fairly regularly, in a small geographical area, it cannot be much of a rarity. So, now the prospects (of my finding the species name)
are looking better and I am hopeful of resolving this one soon.
Habitat:
I spotted this Pristobaeus sp. on foliage in our backyard at around 5:00pm this afternoon.
