Field Notes

Description:

This dragonfly is common throughout the northern hemisphere. In North America it is called the Four-spotted Skimmer. In other areas, it may be called the Four-spotted Chaser. This dragonfly is predominately reddish brown with a black tip on the abdomen.

Habitat:

Ponds and wetlands as nymphs, but I often find them in upland areas as non-breeding adults and even along forest lakes.

Notes:

I photographed this particular dragonfly while on a wilderness canoeing trip through Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
