Description:
Cordyline Fruticosa, also commonly known as kī or tī, is a evergreen floweing plant that is a part of the asparagus family. The plant had a brown stalk and long green leaves. The plant measured about 2 ft. in height. No flowers or berries were evident.
Habitat:
It is commonly found in tropical areas in Polynesia, Asia, and Australia. This particular plant was found in the Pearlridge Heights area.
Notes:
This plant was introduced to Hawaiʻi by Polynesian settlers. In different parts of Polynesia, kī was used for skirts in dances. In ancient Hawaii, kī was considered to have spiritual power. It was planted around houses to keep ghosts away. The plant was also used in food and medicines.
