This was a medium sized mantis. It was a strong flier. Note brown coloration on flanks.

Joshua, this is a nice spotting. Do you have any more views? I am not sure which species this is but I think it looks quite similar in body shape to Genus Litaneutria (Ground Mantids). I haven't found an exact match with that color pattern yet. I hope this helps. http://bugguide.net/node/view/35587
