Field Notes

Description:

I was lucky to catch this pair of adult Bald eagles on one of their favorite perches. It is thought that bald eagles mate for life. However, if one member of a pair dies or disappears, the survivor will choose a new mate. A pair which has repeatedly failed in breeding attempts may split and look for new mates.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge on a dead snag.

Notes:

An eagle's eye is almost as large as a human's, but its sharpness is at least four times that of a person with perfect vision.
