JanineLingTurner they appear to be the offspring of your lovely mrs garden spider, they have the same markings on their underside.
Malcolm Wilton-Jones Yes it was so it could well be a juvenile, but I know virtually nothing about spiders. There were lots of them in my daughters' garden when we visited in October (note spotting date) but not in good positions for photography.
