Field Notes

Description:

This beautiful orchid was growing quite close to the ground and in a colony. The sepals and petals were all a deep purple with tinges of green. The anther cap was a pale yellow sitting up above up-curving dark outgrowths on the lip. The short flower stalk arose form between two broad ovate leaves.

Habitat:

Sclerophyll forest amongst stringy bark trees and native shrubs.

Notes:

An absolute beauty that could be easily missed if not growing in a colony, because it is so close to the ground.
My husband (Mark) and I spotted these together - an exciting find !

Synonyms:
Chiloglottis gunnii; Simpliglottis valida
Family: Orchidaceae
