Description:

Small black bug of the Family Cydnidae (Burrowing Bugs). In the 2nd picture the lowered sucking mouthparts are visible. These bugs dig in loose soil and typically have heavily spined legs and flattened pro-femora for digging. This one was 5 mm in length. They fly readily and often come to lights at night.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
