Field Notes

Description:

Dirt and rock burrow with an empty cell. It blends in very well! Last image shows the size in comparisons to one of my teen nature enthusiast's finger.

Habitat:

On top of rock on hillside along trail at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve

Notes:

"They construct cells of pebbles glued together with resin and placed on twigs, or on roots below the soil surface, or in any available burrows or borings." - BugGuide

Yay, BugGuide was able to ID this to the Genus! It's a Mason Bee housing. Amazing!
Could a squirrel squeeze in thru the entrance?
Very cool! Will be interested to see if you find who it belongs to.
I'm really curious as to what this is! I'll return next week to see if anything is in it when I check on the flowers of the Torrey's Meadow.
