Bit of a tough call on dried out stuff like this but I think Lars is right and Gerado is probably spot on. It certainly looks like dried up Papyrus - Cyperus papayrus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyperus_papyrus If it's wild, it's invasive:http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-calrecnum=8543

Yes, it looks like from the family of Sedges (Cyperaceae, which Reed is part of) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyperaceae
Lol Antonio. I could use brooms like that though. Prefer these sometimes to the vacuum cleaner.
