Description:

Trachemys s. elegans (Wied-Neuwied, 1838), the Red-eared Slider, has a unique, broad red or orange (rarely yellow) stripe behind each eye (Ernst et al, 1994; Conant and Collins, 1998). Younger individuals have numerous dark, eyelike spots on the yellow plastron (Conant and Collins, 1998).
