Description:
Young snapping turtle, 82mm nose to tail. Carapace is 33mm long. Placed the turtle in a container indoors with access to water, greens and meal worms. Turtle recovered sufficiently to explore the container.
Habitat:
Found in the street, on the asphalt paving. Not moving. Air temp 74 d F. Estimated distance to nearest waterway is 180 ft. Location is suburban, with narrow undisturbed natural areas between streets, including perineal streams, mixed second growth wooded areas.
Notes:
Since the turtle recovered after being indoors I will release it into a wooded area near a stream away from houses.
