Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Potanthus sp. This little Dart was resting on a leaf and allowed me to get quite close for one picture and then circle around it to get a picture from the other side, without being startled. I settled for just these two pictures because I did not want to risk disturbing it unnecessarily.

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard in an area which is usually planted with vegetables, but at this time of year is allowed to grow wild. It is thick with grasses, foliage and wild flowers. It might best be described as a tropical meadow.
