Field Notes

Description:

Hardy shrub, about 2m tall here, with many thick branches, and producing many large pale rose flowers.

Habitat:

Grows everywhere around; in fields, on road edges, in urban areas... here observed on a road shoulder close to another urban center, well south of Cox's.

Notes:

This plant, considered a weed around here, in Bangladesh; is also of medicinal value as it contains a sedative and anticonvulsant component. Moreover, it appears that a glycosidic saponin, with anticarcinogenic and oxytoxic properties, has also been purified from this plant.
