Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized diving duck. The male is easily recognised by the black and white plumage, golden eyes and the tuft on the head. In the right light, the plumage has a purple tinge. They are resident in the UK all year round, but the numbers are bumped up in winter as populations from areas like Siberia migrate here.

Habitat:

Mainly found around marshlands and lakes, I find these ones either on the pond behind my house or the lake at the university campus.

Notes:

These guys have been here all year round, so they are UK residents! I have more pics, but my computer is acting up...
