Maybe because of their sweet temperament!
Fair point :) I didn't realise they were so widespread, although I'm pretty sure this guy was placed here, but still...
I'm not knocking your spotting, by the way. It's a very good one. :-) I just lament the fact that this turtle species is in a lot of places it should not be.
It seems to be true... red-eared sliders are everywhere. My friends in the herp community joke that they're "the cockroaches of the reptile world." I think I would be saddened to go across the world and see one living wild.
